I painted this after about 76 straight days of cold, damp,rain. Seriously, here in SW Michigan we have not had one day over 50 degrees and it is the middle of April. Four months of horrible weather. Desperate and hoping to stay off antidepressants I reached back into my photo files from January when I took a trip to California and enjoyed the terrain there. I was captivated by these beautiful cacti soaking up the early afternoon sunshine. My mood was elevated and taking on a challenge such as this was a great diversion from the horrible weather. Holbein pigments on 200# waterford saunders cotton rag.

Thanks Bette...this was a tough subject but I was happy with the results...and felt the sunshine for a little while in my studio! :)
