Description
Driving out to the farm in Coopersville one Sunday to pick up our milk I snapped a photo of a beautiful farm near Allendale, Michigan. I have a new found interest in pastels and decided to render this image in this medium. I love the rich textures and the forgiveness in rendering that makes it very relaxing. Watercolor is such a difficult process at times, I am finding pastel a nice resting spot for a bit. I hope you are as blessed by this painting as I was painting it.

Beautiful effect. Yes, watercolor is impossible. I like the way the bales blend well in context, making the total sky and pasture the object, more than just the bale.

Thank You Christine. I love the simplicity of it. Plus it makes me think of the middle of summer....:)

Thank you so much ladies. I truly treasure your friendship and encouragement. Blessings. Lisa, to think I only have 42 pastel sticks. Can't wait to buy a landscape set.

Sandy, I really like this one. Simply stated, I am able to feel the the air and vast space in this view. The size of these bales of hay, and distant trees, do the job of giving perspective. I absolutely love the touches of lavender in the green grass. It mirrors the light in the sky and pulls it all together. The gradation in the sky looks very realistic. It is all so peaceful. Wonderful piece!

Nice pastel work and I love the vast farmland you chose to do. This type of scene is very endearing as it looks like this where we live.

Thank you Marsha. We have this beautiful "midwest" farmland all around us and I never tire of it. In every season. What is it about the land around us? I feel like Scarlette Ohara holding the gritty dirt in my hand! LOL
